There was a time only eighteen months ago when you could put your novel up for free on KDP and be guaranteed lots of downloads. In fact for one of my books I got over six thousand downloads in three days. It helped with my book sales afterwards. These days this has totally changed. With my book AGAINST MY WILL, I've tried several times to promote my book via dozens of websites, and the results have been disappointed to say the least. I've maybe a couple of hundred downloads each time, and afterwards my sales actually went down. So what is the reason for this? That's hard to say. Obviously these days, everyone seems to be on the bandwagon. It's easy for your book to get lost amongst the tens of thousands of other similar books. the odds against a self published author are still very low. Book publishers are allowed to charge whatever price they like for their books, and for however long they choose. We poor Indie's are restricted by the price we're allowed to charge for our books, the amount of royalties we can get, and also the number of free days we're allowed. I'm not knocking Amazon, without them none of us would have been published, but until we have the same freedom as the big Book Publishers we are forever onto a loser. I'm not sure about this new innovation of theirs, countdown, You are still restricted by what price you can charge., and this is higher than the lowest price possible on KDP. What do you think?
